About us

In our ongoing work with CBOs in the region, we recognised that capacity building of CBOs requires a joint effort. The reasons are, that

• The number of CBOs is overwhelming,
• The need and challenges of CBOs are many and diverse,
• EASUN has a rather specialised approach in capacity building, while a number of other capacity building organizations offer different services to CBOs
• EASUN as a regional organization does not have direct access to CBOs, many of which operate at grassroots level,
• EASUN has a deliberate intent to forge strategic alliances with “like-minded” organizations in the region to strengthen CSOs (CBOs and NGOs).

EASUN has since taken an initiative role in establishing a CBO referral and has undertaken a number of steps so far:

1. Identification of key capacity areas of CBOs through consultancy visits and  OD Interventions with CBOs,

2. A workshop of capacity building organizations (service providers) and CBOs in which capacity needs of CBOs were further expressed and services available to CBOs shared in Moshi, November 2003,

3. A questionnaire was sent to service providers of CBOs to generate a data base on services available (ongoing),

4. Identification of 10 NGOs in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to constitute a “CBOs Working Group” in the region, to guide and manage the establishment of the CBO referral system,

5. Follow up visits with working group members in Uganda and Kenya 2008

1. Share with us the services you offer to CBOs;
2. Share this with your collaborators/partners
3. Contact EASUN or service providers to mentor a CBO
4. Participate in CBOs' Forum
5. Share with EASUN what you are doing for CBOs
6. Participate in EASUN activities
7. Support a service provider to support a CBO
8. Support a CBO to under take FAF training
9. Support a CBO for an OD intervention
10. Link the CBOs' Referral System to your website
